Some might think virtual reality is dead, but it's not. VR is far from dead. If anything, virtual reality is beginning to blur the lines of reality for gaming and has slowly started to pick up traction as developers work to make the best VR apps out there.

Virtual reality and augmented reality devices have slowly started to creep into the public eye. Once the subject of sci-fi and people who insisted on "early adapting" despite not having much use for the gear at all, VR is now quietly being offered in a variety of different settings.

Companies are using virtual reality for factor tours and training modules. Gaming companies are now coming out with VR games on a variety of systems. Now, even the music industry is finding a way to toy around with this new tech.

These days, music companies are starting to roll out with virtual reality music experiences for diehard fans who want to see their favorite performers in a new, stylized way. Want to see the best of the genre? Check out the picks below...

Intone created one of the newest virtual reality music experiences, and unlike others on this list, the star of the show is you. Sing lets you gaze at cubes and use your own voice box to let them change the colors and sizes of them.

It's an abstract game that's a bit hard to understand at times, but definitely hosts a lot of interesting opportunities for people who want to expand their vocal range.

The Weeknd is one of the first major label artists to personally tinker with virtual reality music experiences. He and his buddy, Eminem, created a pretty detailed VR experience for their smash hit release, "The Hills."

The only issue with the release is that it seems a bit too surreal—and half of it seems like it's just following a zombified Weeknd walking through a burning world. Weird as it is, it's a pretty trailblazing experience.

It's a good shot at a virtual reality experience of The Weeknd's music. Virtual reality concerts might just get a little more realistic, if this music project is any indicator.

Another good example of surreal virtual reality music experiences is Musical VR Playground by VR company hotshot Playthings. This crazy experience uses tools that come with Samsung gear to let the user play around in a world where they can make music on hotdogs and lollipops.

Basically, it transports you into the world of Lisa Frank, minus the technicolor tigers and bears that everyone ended up slapping onto school notebooks in the 90s.

Roomie is a talented up-and-coming artist who decided to get into making his own virtual reality music experiences to grab user attention—and it worked. Much like The Weeknd's music video, this is a 360-degree music video that transports you into his own world.

Unlike "The Hills," though, this one's realistic enough to make you feel like you're in London alongside Roomie.

Electronica favorite Squarepusher has also released his own 360-degree experience. Like a lot of the other releases, this is supposed to be one of the many virtual reality music experiences that takes place as a music video-concert hybrid.

Trippy as can be, you don't actually really ever see Squarepusher himself in this. However, this 360-degree music video is so trippy that it's okay. (It gets a little dizzying, though, so you might want to take off your glasses if you get queasy.)

If you have an HTC Vive, you may now rejoice. One of the coolest virtual reality music experiences to be in the form of a rhythm-based games is available to you. In this action-packed game, users get to experience a mixed reality where they literally have to shield themselves from the beat.

Visually stunning? Absolutely. Fun? You betcha!

We all remember the old 00s games where kids would play fake plastic instruments to the sounds of people cheering them on, right? Of course. Rockband VR is a release that somehow managed to skate underneath the radar, and incorporates classic Rock Band gameplay with a virtual reality experience.

This indie game is available on the Oculus Rift, and it's definitely underappreaciated. Sadly, it seems like few will know how good Rock Band VR really is, simply because it's so underappreciated and undermarketed.

To a point, it almost seems like an animated group would have to make one of the best virtual reality music experiences ever. After all, it's not like they have real bodies that can act in movies and fans tend to like seeing their bands in real life.

"Saturnz Barz" is a 360-degree movie that features the Gorillaz in all their cartoony glory, in high detail, going through a haunted house filled with creepy stuff. Jump scares happen, and you'll feel like you are literally in the middle of a Scooby Doo adventure with the gang.

Believe it or not, even the country scene has had some pretty epic music videos that incorporated virtual reality out there. For those who love a little Southern twang in their music, Luke Bryan's 360-degree video for "Home Alone Tonight" will be one of the best virtual reality music experiences you can check out.

The honky tonk bar looks so realistic, you swear you would be able to smell the beer stains on the bar.

Have you ever wanted to literally live inside music? Fantasynth is a game that basically allows you to do just that, all with visually striking elements every single way you turn.

This Vive and Steam-ready experience is set to N'to's track "Chez Nous," and is seven minutes of musical heaven. If you're looking for real trance-y fun, this remains one of the best virtual reality music experiences you can check out.
