A.I., better known as artificial intelligence, is knowledge developed in computer systems in order to be able to perform tasks that humans usually do. Or in another way of putting it, a robot that can easily replace a human. No, I'm kidding. But A.I. is basically a computer system where the creator put in specific knowledge to perform a specific task. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the future. We're surrounded by artificial intelligence and it only grows a little more every day through smart devices.
As amazing as it sounds, there are so many people who are terrified of the myths that comes with the topic. Myths like A.I. taking jobs, replacing humans, and overall ruling the world. Ridiculous, I know, and a ton of people out there can't persuade themselves that these myths are utterly false. If you're one of those people who believe in A.I. myths, then understand that these common myths about A.I. are seriously fake.
Artificial intelligence will replace all jobs.
I'm not saying that artificial intelligence will replace all jobs, but they certainly take on certain jobs that they can easily manage. However, the further we go into the future and more A.I. are created, the less likely they'll replace jobs. Artificial intelligence doesn't possess all the knowledge in a field, because they're only programmed with the basics.
While A.I. is programed with the basics, they can't learn more on their own without any additional knowledge put into them. Humans can naturally learn new strategies and properly handle work in multiple ways. Plus, if artificial intelligence replaces all jobs, the economy will go nuts because of the amount of unemployment. Therefore, there's no way A.I. will replace all jobs.
A.I. is self-sufficient.
Uh, A.I. does need to constantly be watched. It's not human, it can't handle itself. While the computer system is developed with the intelligence it's designed to understand, it still needs to be controlled in case it malfunctions, glitches, etc.
Since artificial intelligence isn't human and cannot learn new knowledge, there needs to be someone installing in more knowledge into the system. It can't open up a book or surf the Internet to update its intelligence; it's one of the common myths about A.I.
Low-skilled and manual workers will be replaced with A.I.
Among the ridiculous common myths about A.I., like I mentioned before, it cannot replace all jobs. This also goes for low-skilled and manual workers, too. Just because these workers aren't performing in intense jobs that requires a lot of knowledge, doesn't mean they'll easily be substituted with artificial intelligence.
Everyone needs a job and in order for everyone to keep their job, they aren't replaced with A.I. While you may be working with artificial intelligence, there's no way the program will snag your seat.
It's easy to create artificial intelligence.
It's certainly not easy to build your own artificial intelligence program. If you believe it is, do you understand how difficult and time consuming it is to put together a program and fill it with necessary knowledge to perform certain tasks? It's hard.
Only those who studied in the field are able to build A.I. for companies as well as be the one to install any intelligence. When there's a certain task you wish A.I. can perform, you must thoroughly acknowledge the types of knowledge to display in the system. If you miss even the smallest data, your artificial intelligence won't properly perform the duty, because it lacks that one small data.
Only major companies use artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence is all around us, it's not only in major businesses and companies. We've all seen A.I. in super markets when self-checking out, in certain restaurants when ordering ourselves, and even at banks when withdrawing money. It's part of our daily lives and we don't even realize it.
Artificial intelligence does sound complex and expensive, but that doesn't mean that only major companies possess this—it's one of the common myths about A.I. Even our local supermarkets use A.I. for a bit of extra help! There are also artificial intelligence apps to guide you through everyday tasks.
A.I. are just robots.
I'm sure many of us have seen videos online of talking robots and performing tasks. That's not what A.I. mainly is—it's not just robots. Artificial intelligence goes way beyond talking clusters of metal, but programs installed in computers. A.I. is in our cellphones, in your laptops, in our televisions, basically almost everywhere in technology.
So, those talking robots that you find videos of on Facebook, that's not all what artificial intelligence has for us. This is only one of the common myths about A.I. that you should stop believing.
Artificial intelligence possess human characteristics.
Artificial intelligence can perform almost all of what a human can do in a certain job, but this doesn't mean it also possesses human qualities and characteristics. Since the majority of A.I. is developed through computer systems, it can't possibly own human characteristics. However, there are some programs that feature a bit of emotion and personality, like iOS's Siri and Amazon's Alexa, but they're only wired to respond in certain ways. It's not natural.
These software programs are only used to perform certain tasks, and nothing more. Yes, many of them do have character in them, but it's because they were installed with it. And when any of these A.I. devices tells you that they "love you" or "like you," sorry to burst your bubble, but it's not genuine love. They'll only programmed to tell you that.
Artificial intelligence can solve all of your problems.
It's true that artificial intelligence can solve most of your problems... but not all of them. Since these computer programs are developed with the basics and accurate knowledge in a certain job, it gives you the options that it only knows. If you have a specific problem or concern, it's possible that A.I. cannot help you with that and a human would need to assist you.
Since A.I. doesn't possess human qualities, it also means that it cannot think and even search up answers to your questions. While this is among the common myths about A.I., it's also another reason why artificial intelligence can never replace jobs, because it doesn't have the answer to everything compared to being assisted by a human.
A.I. define their own goals.
From the crazy common myths about A.I., they can't define their own goals... at all. It wouldn't make sense since they're only programs on softwares and don't possess any human characteristics. Artificial intelligence cannot possibly create goals and attempt to achieve them.
They have no ambitions, no motivation, no emotions—period. Since they don't have actual human qualities, there's no way for them to dream about "writing a book someday" and succeed in it. They're just a program.
Artificial intelligence will take over the world!
Lastly, from the insane common myths about A.I., artificial intelligence will someday rule the world! Robots will enslave the human population and we'll all be under the command of artificial intelligence! Yeah... okay. I'm very shocked and slightly concerned that there are people out there who believe this myth is true.
If humans are the ones who created A.I., they also have to power to shut down the programs. Since artificial intelligence doesn't have any human qualities like thoughts and emotions, there is no way that it can control the world, let alone a single individual.
