Social Media.

It almost rules our world now, right?

People connect on social media, learn to cook on social media, shop on social media, and can find out that cute barista whose name tag you only saw the first three letters of on social media.

It's no wonder that in the last few years, social media has been taken by storm by individuals and businesses who are trying to reach their perfect customers. It has increasingly become the most effective and cost-efficient form of advertising in today's market. But how do YOU take advantage of social media to help yourself or your brand grow?

People go to school to get degrees in this, so I can't give you the golden ticket for social media reach, but I can give you a few tips that will help you expand your following and audience and set you up with the foundation for success on social media!

So, without further ado:

1. Make your content count

Don't just post for the sake of posting. It is far more important to have meaningful, well-cultivated content than it is to post every single day. Strongly composed, well-lit photos or clear, well thought-out written content with a transparent connection to your brand or individual interest is going to get you worlds further in the social media sphere than having daily posts. Make sure you have a clear reason to post this photo or blog and ask yourself if you would "like" it or interact with it if this was a stranger's post.

2. Color Schemes

This one is entirely specific to Instagram, but it is so huge.

Do yourself a favor and look at the photos of the people you follow with over 100K followers. Look at the photos in grid view and you will see that almost all have a similar color scheme. This is a HUGE subliminal part of strong accounts. The human brain loves organized visuals, including the organization of color. If nine photos all have a corresponding color scheme, it is more visually pleasing and stimulating to your brain. It literally makes you "like" it more!

3. Follow, Like, Comment

This tip is a gold mine if you dedicate an hour a day to only this task. Also, you can apply these principles to most social media platforms.

You know the "Explore" page on Instagram? That page cultivates content based on your likes and follows. Let's say, for example, you are a cake decorator; you probably like posts of other beautiful cakes or confections and that tells Instagram to show you more of that similar content. They show you that through the explore page! You can use this page to find other Instagram users who share your interests. Half the battle is won!

Begin following, liking, and commenting on these users' pages and images. Interacting with people who have similar interests will connect you with follow backs and interaction with people who are actually interested in your content. It is important to be genuine. Don't just add a hundred users willy-nilly because you want a huge following. This will get you ghost followers and people who aren't even interested in your brand or business. Follow people who you genuinely think would like your content or whose content you genuinely like!

While there are thousands of tips and tricks for improving your social media presence and following, these are some core ways to get you on the path to being a social media powerhouse! Apply them diligently and your following and audience will certainly expand. Perhaps more than you ever expected!
